Except that:
1. European powers were willing to negotiate Hitler's
demands up to and including the Sudetenland, which he
said (1938) was his "last territorial demand in Europe,"
and told their electors this was a firm (and moral) promise.
Within a year Hitler demonstrated he was making other
demands, they treated his change of policy as an
intolerable breach of diplomatic faith.
2. No other power in modern European history built
"death factories" to exterminate unwanted people.
3. No other power in modern European history
deported designated minorities from conquered
European countries in order to exterminate them.
4. No other European great power that had signed
the Hague Conventions on treatment of prisoners
of war later unilaterally decided its promises did not
apply to PoWs from non-signatory countries (and
deliberately treated them badly.)
5. There were precedents in European history for causing
civilian casualties and destroying cutural symbols: but
no power before Nazi Germany did this so thoroughly
(e.g. "Baedeker raids" on England.)

The people who actually fought WW2 seldom thought
it "a regular war over regular issues." When beseiged
in Berlin in 1945 Hitler and his government obviously
did not.
