Balkowski on Utah

A friend of mine is reading Balkowski's new book on Utah Beach and has come
across something that surprised him. Balkowski claims that US parachute
infantry battalions only contained three companies each with no heavy
weapons company. The rationale he gives is that it was found to be
impractical to chuck MGs and mortars out the transport door. That is likely
the case, but I could swear that somewhere I have read that such weapons
were dropped packed in cannisters that were carried beneath the wings of the
aircraft.
This site:

gives the battalion organization as pretty much like the standard infantry,
but it is dated 15 September 1941, and I know many things changed between
that date and D-Day.
Does anyone have the answer to this conundrum?
Michael
