No, Hitler declared war on the U.S. to reciprocate
for Japan's attack on Britain and the U.S. For much
of 1941, Hitler repeatedly pressed Japan to go to
war against his enemies, and promised that if Japan
did so, he would honor the alliance to the end (no
separate peace).
Japan could have attacked the USSR, but Japan was
primarily a naval power, and struck at Hitler's
chief naval enemies. Hitler was quite pleased,
especially after hearing the magnitude of Japan's
success. So - as he had pledged - he backed up
Japan's play.
