'English-speaking group' means very little besides common language of
communication and does not restrict their areas of interests. Read SHM
chapter, to start with.

That's all very true.

However what I find offensive is your insistence that people who have
interests limited to the English speaking world have in some way
transgressed the boundaries of what is acceptable.

This is not my 'insistence' at all and I never wrote anything of the
kind. You can discuss whatever you want and you had been doing so for
years without any objection from me. My only and very strong objection
is to Renia's repeated statements that non-Brits are 'foreigners' and
should discuss non-British (which includes Western European as well)
history in some other groups.

BTW, as a side issue, implication that 'English speaking world' is
somehow equal to 'British' is not correct: on this side of the
Atlantics and specifically in the US the WASPs are not (AFAIK) a
majority of the English speakers and 'American culture' (regardless of
admirable efforts of Paul and his buddies in Academia :-)) is not
strictly English in its roots or treatment of history. By the reasons
obvious, it is much wider and quite a few people consider English
history either as only marginally relevant (even my level of interest
is rather exception than a rule among the 'non-academicians') or as
more or less hostile (over the years I worked with the numerous people
of Irish and Hindu descent).
