Green on my newsreader, but I can set it as any colour I want.

Oh the joys of dumping Micro$oft...

I now have a fast simple computer that works all the time and hasn't
crashed for weeks...

Hasn't crashed for weeks?

Touch wood and all that, but mine doesn't crash. Why does (did) yours?

In the past three years I've had to rebuild my Dell 3100C desktop running M$
XP at least a dozen times.

Now I run Ubuntu on a dead cheap AMD 64 bit quad core PC that I picked up
from Ebay for £300, complete with 8 Gig of RAM, NVIDIA graphics and a 500
GB SATA drive.

This runs everything I need for free, but various UK government web sites
require you to use M$ Explorer, and so I still have the old Dell running M$
XP stashed under the table and connected to a KVM switch.

I use a Newsreader called KNode.

I'm no Linux guru, I haven't done any computer admin stuff for well over a
decade now, but I find the current version of Ubuntu (9.04) easy to
install, easy to run and the free software is very good indeed.

I run a NAS server in the background to back everything up because we now
have four computers between the two of us and it's handy to have easy access
secure back-up storage. But with a 500 GB RAID array it cost less than
£150, which is almost nothing for peace of mind.
