What are these common cultural traits between the Scots and the French you
see -- other than the well-known historical Auld Alliance against a Common
Enemy, the English?

We Brits project the "British special case" only to Britain because we
are an island and geographically and culturally separate from
Continental Europe.
Not only culturally separate from Europe. Also culturally linked to
Europe.
Linked, yes. The British and the French have been swimming across La
Manche for generations, but both nations rather like that great river
between us. It joins us but separates us both because we are both great
nations which have always liked our own identities. The Scots have far
more in common with the French than the English do.
