Do we have some kind of permanent cross-post to the genealogy group?
There seem to be more genealogy posts than history posts in shm on a
regular basis.

Long story. Basically, we have two situations.

About a year back someone new came to soc.gen.med (actually to its
associated mailing list) to have his glorious pedigree affirmed by the
group. It received a negative scholarly evaluation (and his dubious
application of scholarship was questioned). As he became more strident
in his 'alternative' concept of proof and in insulting those who
criticized the descent (and those third parties who tried to help
explain), well, let's just say that things got a little heated and he
went away mad. Except he didn't really go away. He instead simply
switched to a stable of sock puppets, used to insult those he held
responsible in increasingly less lucid prose and verse, (not that this
really fooled anyone - you can paint zebra-stripes on a donkey, but it
is still the same jackass). From about the first of the year, he
apparently realized that his approach was not accomplishing the
desired effect and he has started imitating Hines' crossposting
(selecting the same groups), explicitly stating that he is doing it to
degrade the quality of soc.gen.med out of revenge (consideration for
the other groups seems beyond his scope). This poster, Bill Arnold,
now posts as Bret, Aaron Parmenter, Wile, and Let it Fly (all
originally supposed to be distinct posters, but he seems to have lost
the ability to keep his personae straight, and they now are being used
as entirely synonymous pseudonyms). He has also taken to using all
caps in his subject headers, as if he weren't enough of a cliche
already. He has rapidly advanced from disgruntled poster into yet
another full-fledged USENET loon, and should be viewed accordingly.

The other recent source is Mr. Richardson. He is a crossposter of a
different sort, being a passive-aggressive narcissist. He crossposts
for two reasons. The first is the more obvious - simply put, he is so
in love with his own genius that he wishes to share it with a broader
audience. The second is a more subtle pattern. He tends, slowly, to
start leaving off the crossposts until eventually only s.g.m is
included in all of his posts, but then some bit of his flawed logic
gets criticized and suddenly back come the crossposts, in part so that
he can show up the other poster before a broader audience, but
likewise because he knows it annoys people. This brings about another
stretch of universal crossposting. He said something stupid in (I
think it was) early January, got called on it, and has been
crossposting almost everything since.

Then there is Hines . . . . 'nuff said.
