Cites please.
That seems to adequately capture your position. And there is nothing
wrong with that, or wouldn't be if you couldn't just google for the
information and be buried in sites discussing the philosophy of
science as it applies to your field, junk climate engineering, and
even track down the crackpot that told the California legislature that
it would take 10^34 years of supercomputer time to estimate the
'perfect' climate model . OTOH, you haven't done it before now. I
assume that that's because you're busy doing research and you're not
that interested.
Likewise, why on earth would I want to defend the cranks on the
merits? No thanks. How about if I stick to where you're weak, i.e.,
the mammoth supply of self-criticism available from the philosophy
workshops you've skipped, the modesty blocks in your own publications
and the dreadful writing in last year's IPCC report?
While most of you have been sitting in your labs, your field's
reputation has been savaged from within and discredited from without.
It should come as no surprise that people have withdrawn into corners.
In case you're wondering, I doubt that badgering them will help.
Can you give us a clue as to what philosophy has to do with
this particular subject?
What is particularly bizarre about this case is that James has rather
recently started showing up in talk.origins, where he firmly rejects
the kind of pseudo-philosophy-of-science on origins that he here
adopts whole cloth with respect to climate. It is simply _amazing_ how
blind one can be to internally mediated biases...
Is *that* the same James Beck? Oh my... I didn't think so.
James -- PLEASE calm down, step back, and TRY to figure out some way
in which your stance here differs from the self-deceived bogosities of
the ID crowd with respect to biology. As far as I can see, there is none.
(And that means something other than "in this case, I find the crap
persuasive.") The science is _extremely_ clear. It has been for decades.
You are simply trying to evade simple truth. And I don't think you have
the background know what the hell you are talking about in this matter.
You are rationalizing prejudices, not dealing with reality.
