The Stella Artois 2008 UK advertising campaign highlights the year
1366, and the first recorded brewin in Leuven. It goes on to claim
that Stella Artois is still brewed "using the same four
ingredients": 1. Water
2. Hops
3. Malted barley
4. Maize

Can anyone spot the fallacy?

Hops? Dear me...

Anyone who has had the misfortune to sample this Belgian
piddle-water, will realise that anyone daring to serve the muck in
medieval times would have been hung!

In 1366 I daresay many other ingredients were found in ale, such as
rodent hair, droppings, dead flies and a whole host of fascinating
bacteria. Stella is so dry and sterile, even rats would avoid it I
suspect.

No, you've missed the obvious.

Yeast.

You're still missing the obvious. (Yeast wasn't known to be an ingredient, and shouldn't be there in the final product.)
