You are ignoring the 1801 Union with Ireland (1800 Act) which created the
United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland (since 1922 the United Kindom
of Great Britain and Northern Ireland - "Southern Ireland" is another,
long, story!) as a unitary state.

Since 1801 "Great Britain" has had neither legal nor political
significance - it is now only a geographical expression.

But I'm not ignoring that union. That said union amalgamated two kingdoms
into one. Ireland joined with Great Britain. Great Britain still exists as
that political unit which is in union with Northern Ireland to form the UK.
If Northern Ireland left the union tomorrow then we would revert to the term
Great Britain or as is stated in the articles of the 1707 union the United
Kingdom of Great Britain.
