The Norman Conquest of England transformed that island

Eh. England isn't an island!

Allan

said the scottish quisling.

It's not pretty continuously laying out all your anti-English
pejudices for everyone to see.......especially for someone who seems
to like to think of himself as a liberal in other respects. As for
being a quisling then that is absurd. A quisling is someone who aids
an occupying force. In Scotland there is no occupying force and
politically I support the SNP anyway. Like the vast majority of Nats
I am content to accept the democratic choices of my compatriot Scots.
There is no place for your anti-English sentiment.
On my reply then the original poster, probably in all innocense, made
huge mistakes. The statement says "the Norman conquest of England
transformed that island from a northern Kingdom" so it is wrong on
several levels.
If he's talking about England then England isn't an island and never
has been an island. If he's talking about Britain as a whole island
then it wasn't a kingdom until 1707 more than 600 years after the
Battle of Hastings.

"Great Britain" as a whole island. "Britain" means the United Kingdom (however configured.)

Pedant United. Is that a football team?
