Where are the big history communities? How do these work? Of course,
everybody knows Linkedin and (national oriented) popular social sites.
But what about sites that serve a similar audience as Facebook? Say, a
history student from a Russian university: does this person also
register in Facebook? If not, where do they go?

Facebook? Is that something like Wikipedia?
It's equally fictional, from what I hear.
Facebook is the latest blog-thing. Not quite a blog but you can enter
things about yourself (books you have read, films you have seen, your
holiday or wedding photos) and can send virtual drinks, food and other
things to other people with whom you have linked up on your facebook.
You can also join facebook communities which people make up, such as
(can't think of exact name) the lighthearted one which wants to rescind
America's independence from the Mother Country. You can even colour in a
world map with the countries and cities you have visited or lived in.
There are communities for historians. Many of them you only can participate
in if you are invited to participate. Please don't confuse these communities
with the Google's groups etc.
I won't and nor should you. Facebook's are not Google Groups.
This guy has been trolling many groups looking for the sort of contact
that passes for social intercourse nowadays. There's a novel idea for
a grouping, intelligent people who share an interest in some field and
are able to carry on an intelligent exchange of ideas. Naw, probably
fall apart.
