I think it's better that the contestants send their finished
translations to me by email. Then there can be no accusations of
firstcopying from the other's translation.
I can confirm that Inger has sent me a Swedish version of the
line 6one
and a half lines.
NOTE TO THE CONTESTANTS:
I made a mistake when typing in the text. The word "sunir" in
storumcontext, should of course be "sumir" (but you figured that out from the
didn't you). Here's the correct text:
En um þyðerska menn er higat ero comnir mikill fiolþi oc með
landeyia erscipum oc ætla heþan at flytia smior oc screið er mikill
lagzat
þeiri brotflutningo. en her kemr i staðinn vin er menn hafa til

kavpa hvarir-tveGio minir menn oc bøiar-menn eða cavpmeN hefir

þesa soc. sumir limunum, sumir bera annars-kyns orkuml allan
of-dryckia.sinn.
Sumir svivirðing verit færðir eða barðir. oc velldr þeso
OldcaN
ec þeim Suðr-monnuM micla oþavcc firir sina ferþ.I think it's best Alan, that we first tell those who never read
Alan
TheNorse
that it's more essential to see if a word is a none, a verb etc.
phraseword
'sumir' can be understood differently if it's in for example a
nominativelike
'settusk sumir ..." than the word is a masculine pronominal
Swedish(plural) and can best be translated with 'some' English, the
del'word
'några' doesn't cover the 'sumir' as well as the English and 'en
inisn't
better since that Swedish word has an other value than 'sumir' had
'swim'the
origin text.
Hint: use "somliga".
Now 'sumir' can also be found in Old Norse as a Verb form of
looksbut
that's not the case in the text you sent us.
Definitely not. I don't know any form of the verb 'svimma' that
bitlike that, but then I'm not a native speaker of Old Norse.
Btw woke up once in the morning but since I have time to sleep a
part(s).longer
today I did. Need a cup of coffee before sending you the next
not
FURTHER NOTE TO THE CONTESTANTS:
There's another mistake in the text that I ought to point out. It's
manuscript.mine this time, but a mistake by the person who copied the
saying:The word "landeyia" is an obvious error (the editor has a note
ofSic). But it's equally obvious from the context what the second part
1960'sthe compound really should be.
There is a problem with the 'landeyia' since that word was used up to
by the Elderly speaking the Old Norse in Tanum's parish. they used itfor
Swedish 'mark' on small islands. For example 'Lammön' was refered toas the
'landeyia' when they talked about the old tradition to transportsheeps to
the little island in summertime. The word refers to an island whichisn't
'high' above the sea and which don't take more than a few minuits towalk
over. It was also used when such an island from which you could walkin the
water to the mainland was up in the discussion.
Hint: That has nothing to do with the meaning of the misspelled word in
this text.
