What is the pagenumber? I didn't find these dates.
Sorry, I gave you the c14 dates for burial 17, mound 17 (burial 9/10)
does not appear to have been c14 dated.
Page 91 he says "no strong reason to put it outside the periods, 550
- 650".
That is sloppy(?) quoting.
Yep, the numbering of the graves caught me out.
" There was no strong reason for dating any furnished graves
outside the period 550 -650 and perhaps all could be placed
in a still narrower band either side of AD 600. "
But the earlier graves from the later found cemetery
north of Sutton Hoo were also furnished. And there
was a horse burial.

Do you mean Snape? how do you know the horse burial predates Sutton Hoo? the
6th to 7th c date is consistent with it still being in use.
I think you will find a lot of this dating is on the basis of Bede, mound
one is the most lavish so must be Rædwald the Bretwalda at the end of the
pagan period.
Snape had a smaller longship than either mound 1 or 2 so must have been an
earlier king, Bede's Rendelsham is the link (HE iii 22) it's about midway
between the two.
The pagan period stretched well into the 7th century (HE, ii.15) and Carver
notes that little Christian influence is seen in the surrounding area until
circa 10c.
The pagan kings of East Anglia reigned less than 100 years (page 172) this
is based on Bede not c14 dating.
