Not quite the same thing. Most of the meanings of the characters are
the same in both languages and are independent of the sound. Though
the usage may vary, I have seen Chinese, Korean, and Japanese native
speakers mutually navigate each each other's writings, mostly
*knowing*, but filling in the gaps by guessing intelligently.

performing major surgery on his.
I would be inclined to take his word on things Japanese
as having taken Japanese to as high a level as possible
in Britain he is now fortunate in being taught by a Japanese
professor who is studying how advanced students learn Japanese.
View this as an apology to prd and an admission that

I try not to make too many assumptions about what the people who
participate in this group do (or don't) know. There would be too many
surprises here. However, for what it's worth, I did wonder if it was
you, so...I trimmed the headers & only replied to the post on SHM.

This means that prd has not seen Celia's apology, since he reads sci.archaeology. But I
think Philip can survive without an unnecessary apology.

SHM & sci.lang, which I also read, often cross paths. Variations of
the particular subject in this sub-thread have been discussed many
times in SL. It is probably best left there.
