I made enough to not to have to work any more.

That's OK. Hines's retirement is being paid for by
me, among many others.

Talk about socialism... ;-)

True, but you and "many others" are also paying for my retirement, which
makes me feel WAY better. :>)

That's no problem.

Let me explain something to you. You and I may disagree
(strongly) politically. You have that right and so do I.
If you've done your bit to earn a government pension then
I'm all for paying it.

Why should it be otherwise? Do you think that I want
all political opposition jailed?

On the other hand I have never seen you complain about
what others earn and have. But then you are not Hines.

DSH wrote that he is not retired, his income

I'm sure many of us here have investment income,
myself included but several years back I saw another
side to this.
One day a week I taught in a small private school
for dyslexic children that was owned by a friend.
She lived in a large house in a wealthy part of
the town and she said her husband earned his living
on the Stock Exchange.
Share prices crashed, they sold the house and
moved into an equally grand rented house.
Things didn't improve and within a few weeks they were
living in a small tent on our lawn. (Our house was too
small to squash anyone else in)
In the tent her husband spent the entire day
and most of the night with his computer playing
the Stock Exchange. He no longer called it
"Earning a living" but honestly admitted that
it was 'gambling'.
When he wanted her to sell the school because
he had run out of money she left him and when
last heard from was running courses for dyslexic
children in a township in South Africa.
There's probably a moral in this story somewhere.
