Sounds pretty daft to me, but then I am not a paeloclimatologist. :-)

Trees only mop up CO2 while the forests are expanding. As soon as nett
growth becomes static the effect should stop. I suspect that close
examination will not support a useful correlation.

It certainly sounds implausible. Also I thought the cooling started before the Black Death or at least there were some food shortages due to poor weather shortly before the Black Death.
