Modern historians have not the faintest idea what
criteria to use to judge whether the gnostic gospels
contain a germ of truth.
It would be revolutionary should modern historians
establish to their satisfaction that Jesus Christ
did not die on the cross.
The scholarly work of Dr. Barbara Thiering makes
a claim on our intellectual attention because she
has shown she can extract reliable, detailed history
out of certain NT books by decoding the text on a
deeper level than the surface level. For example,
one result is that all miracles of healing are
actually political conversions.
The verification of her methodology by other scholars
has been held up a quarter century out of rank
prejudice or because her pesher is too intellectually
difficult for them to comprehend. VanderKam is a
prime example.
My public role on SHA is to point legitimate
historians to a problem area that they find out for
themselves where the evidence leads. Don't
hesitate to ask me any question on Christian
Origins.
