If you insist on written records then I have to insist on a written
copy of the Koran containing the satanic verses. Can I get one from
Amazon?
If Amazon dared sell one they would have a fatwa inflicted on them.
So there isn't a written record?
There is a written record in the Suna and Hadith.
No. What I didn't make obvious is that my grandparents' generation
could remember the history of their streets and villages, & all of the
families living in them, going back to the Black Death in some cases.
So 40 years ago I asked my grandad about his parents & stuff & he went
on until I ran out of money to buy him more alcohol. (It is a
disappointment, but I should point out to the literal minded that this
is a joke!)
And I take it that your granddad is an illiterate hermit who never spoke to
people who studied the black death a school. Pull the other one.
My grandfather was born somewhen around 1890. School attendance had
only just become "obligatory" & I think the school leaving age was 11.
He could read simple things, but was pretty much illiterate by our
standards. I doubt if the village population numbered more than a few
hundred, and most, possibly all, of the families had "always lived
there".
Well then you grandfather was literate and living in a world dominated by writing and was taught all he know from written histories. Therefore there is no evidence of an oral tradition in you family. And even will all of this writing you still cannot tell me which person and which party your great great grandfather vote for when or if he was first eligible to vote.
My point is that people in such a society did preserve an oral
tradition. It was subject to the laws of storytelling, as has been
Your point has been proven to be incorrect.
pointed out by another poster. Whether they could really go back to
the Black Death or not I don't know, its really just a figure of
speech, but they could certainly go back several generations.
No they could not. You can't even tell us if your great great grandfather was eligible to vote let alone who he voted for.
