I don't (yet) have a success story, but I'm aware that DNA testing
can place you in a specific line of descent. There's a combined DNA
research effort on my family name, so I can get a discount on the
testing cost by providing even a limited family tree ($150 versus
$250). I think it will be worth the effort, as no one in our branch
did any research until about 20 years ago - way too late to ask the
people who knew more than a couple of generations back. Information
back to my GGG-grandfather is possibly correct, but beyond that it's
pure guesswork - sharecroppers rarely showed up in the newspaper and
didn't have enough of an "estate" to need a will...
My DNA test didn't happen this year but I'm confident it will put me
in the right line when it happens. (An old retired guy with rods
and plates in his back deems it wise to pay someone else to replace
siding on the upper level and paint from the top of a 30 foot ladder
;-) Maybe next year.
