they are probably volunteers working without wages to help the
finances of the society
we have the same in England
I do paid research in Denmark
I charge a big fee
because eg searching 40000 unindexed names is boring and hard work
I charge 75% of what the National archives charge
You can do the work yourself is my standard answer
and I help many without charge
take a plane and book a hotel
the top professionals charge about the same as lawyers and may give
evidence in courts of law about pedigree and inheritance rights.
eg
http://www.college-of-arms.gov.uk/
one of the UK's leading firms of genealogists with offices
throughout Europe. Based in London we have over 40 highly trained
staff, as well as agents and correspondents throughout the world
Fraser & Fraser has been conducting world-class research for over 30
years. We developed from the traditions and experience of Mrs
Gertrude Christensen, who formed a genealogical firm in 1923, and
have dealt with over 7,000 inheritance cases. Since 1991 alone, we
have enabled our clients to inherit over 100 million.
