Pedigree of Agnes de Vescy


In Yorkshire Inquisitions, Henry II to Edward I, pages 83-4 it gives an Inquisition concerning Agnes de Vescy, in which (in note b) it states that she was the daughter of William de Ferrers, Earl of Derby, and that her husband was William de Vescy, who died in 1253. It then states on her own IPM (in 1290) it was found that her son and heir was William de Vescy.

Immediately under this Inquisition is another, dated 1289, which states that Sir John de Vescy was the son of Agnes de Vescy, who had enfeoffed his mother with the manor of Gribthorpe (among others), before going to the Holy Land, and brought a writ for recovery for his manors against his mother on his return.

A previous inquisition on pages 82 and 83 for John de Vescy, dated 1289, state that he held the Manors of Neuson (Newsholme, parish of Wressle) and Brind (the Lordships of Brind and Gribthorpe were soke of the Manor of Newsholme), of the Mortimer Fee, and his heir was his brother, William de Vescy.

In the Pipe Rolls for 1186, pages xxxii-xxxiii, it states that John de Vesci, who died in 1289 held the Manor of Gribthorpe, of the Mortimer Fee, and cited CIPM II, no. 723, and CCR 1288-1296, page 144.

However, in Kirby's Inquest (1284-5), page 80, I believe it states that John de Vescy holds the Manor of Gribthorpe of the Mowbray Fee; and on page 252, in the list of Knight's Fees for 1303, it states that Gribthorpe is of the Mowbray Fee, and is now held by Clementia de Vescy, widow of John de Vescy jun, only son of William and Isabella de Vescy.

Can someone point me to a printed pedigree of Agnes de Vescy, so I can sort out the names above.

I would also appreciate any thoughts of the apparent discrepancy in describing Gribthorpe as of the Mowbray Fee and/or the Mortimer Fee.
