To TJ Booth, and to anyone else from mailing list who is annoyed by my
questions,
You are a rather unkind person. I have been researching this in detail, and have
seen the Douglas Hickling post (many of them, actually). I have printed out all
sorts of threads from the archives of Gen-Medieval which pertain to dozens of
ancestors, and I would never ask any question unless I really needed to. This is
not homework, it is my hobby.
Here is what you said, TJ:
"Before asking this newsgroup to do your homework, you should find it more
interesting and educational to first search the archives."
"You will not hear from me again, and likely most others, until you demonstrate
you have researched the SGM archives and paid closer attention to the available
resources."
I did that. If you have a problem with someone asking a question, then do what
you were taught in preschool: if you don't have something nice to say, don't say
anything at all. Is this vitriolic behavior restricted to TJ or do many of you
feel the same way? Someone who posted on the Gen-Medieval message board in
response to my question was also quite condescending. Seriously - what was it
about my questions that offended you so much?

In your 2nd post you note that you were reading Charles Davies Sherborne; 'A
History of the Family of Sherborn'. Had you read p. 16 more closely, Richard Jr.
d. Ascension Day is stated to be 25 May 1441 :
fr Charles Davies Sherborne; 'A History of the Family of Sherborn'; London;
Mitchell and Hughes; 1901. [page 11-12]

[page 13]"Richard [Sr.] died 19 Hen VI, 1441. His will, which is given below
as an early specimen of English, is dated 3 Jan 1436 [/37] and was proved 7 Jun
1441, while the inquisition post mortem was taken at Lancaster on Thursday the
feast of St. Lawrence Martyr 19 Hen VI, 10 Aug 1441. The jury say that the said
Richard died seized of the manors of Aghton and Hamilton, lands in Baggersburgh
and Frekleton, land in Leylond, a quarter part of the manor of Bolton, a moiety
of the manor of Wiswall, two burgages in Clitheroe, and together with Agnes his
wife of the manor of Longton, and that the said Richard died on Monday before
Pentecost 19 Hen VI, i.e. 29 May 1441; and that Robert aged six years, son of
Richard, son of the aforesaid Richard, is the grandson and next heir (RDK,

'History of Craven', 22 and quoted in W., ii:475 must be incorrect.

Hamerton of Wicklisworth Yorks, arm. This lady is variously referred to as Maud
or Matilda (W., ii:476; Stow MS), but the inscription on her husband's tomb at
Mitton, now destroyed, preserved in a MS in the college at Mons (Baines, Hist
Gaz. Lanc, ii:1825, 634) reads as follows: 'Orate pro anima Ric de Sherburne at

The archives for this newsgroup contain numerous posts about this family.
Before asking this newsgroup to do your homework, you should find it more
interesting and educational to first search the archives. They may be accessed @
http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/index/GEN-MEDIEVAL . The search page is
found by clicking 'search' at the middle right of this webpage. You need to try
different spellings of 'Sherborn', 'Sherborne', 'Sherburn' etc to find
everything. Searching for 'Sherburne' in the 'Body:' textbox returned 67 posts
today. One of them is a marvelous 2004 post by Douglas Hickling @
http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/gen-medieval/2004-05/1085450671
that adds some information about some of the generations you're searching,
including correcting the identity of Richard Sr.'s wife Agnes (the Sherborn book
calles her Agnes Stanley).
You will not hear from me again, and likely most others, until you demonstrate
you have researched the SGM archives and paid closer attention to the available
resources.

year)
Dear mailing list,Ancestry"
I posted this on the Gen-Medieval message board, but I figured I'd cross-post
it
here as well.
I hope someone can help me understand why Richard Sherburne (who married Agnes
Harington) died on May 29, 1441 and his son, Richard Sherburne (who married
Alice Hammerton) died on Ascension Day, 1441. I don't know exactly when
Ascension Day in 1441 was, but I believe it's after Easter, so it would be
sometime in the spring. I am getting my information from "Magna Carta
by Douglas Richardson and also from "A History of the Family of Sherborn" by.
Charles Davies Sherborn. Does anyone know the circumstances of their deaths?
Was
it a battle in which they both fought?
Another question about the Sherburne family will follow. Thank you to anyone
who
responds.
