Boteler ascent of the Churchills

In poking around the families connected with the previously mentioned
Grizel Roche, I happened to notice some additions to what Leo is
showing in the ancestry of both Diana Spencer and Sarah Ferguson.

Not to mention thousands of others and probably everyone in this
newsgroup. As this extends data on the Boteler family who lurk behind
the Churchills.

I do not know if this is known, but Leo is not showing it, so
presumably others will find it new to them as well.

perhaps. It is based partly on reviewing the descent of the Manor of
Watton Woodhall, Herts.

1. Lady Anne Churchill was born 27 Feb 1682, the daughter of John
Churchill (1650-1722), 1st Duke of Marlborough by his wife Sarah
Jennings (1660-1774).
2. John Churchill was the son of Winston Churchill (1620-1688), Knt
of Glanville Wotton by his wife Elizabeth Drake.
3. Elizabeth Drake was the daughter of John Drake (1591-1636), Knt
of Ashe, co Devon by his wife Eleanor "Helen" Boteler (d 1666).
4. Eleanor Boteler was the daughter of John Boteler (1566-1637),
1st Baron Boteler of Bramfield (cr. 1628) by his wife Elizabeth
Villiers
5. John Boteler was the son of Henry Boteler (~1538-1609), Knt of
Hatfield Woodhall, co Herts by his wife Catherine Waller (d. 1572)
6. Henry Boteler was the son of John Boteler (1515-76), Knt of
Watton Woodhall, Herts by his wife Grizel Roche (d. 1582) (see Henry

7. John Boteler was the son of Philip Boteler (d. 1545), Knt of
Watton Woodhall and Pulverbatch, Herts by his wife Elizabeth Drury
8. Philip Boteler was the son of John Boteler (d. ~1515), esq of
Watton Woodhall, Herts by his wife Dorothy Tyrrell
9. John Boteler was the son of John Boteler (b.1435) by his wife
Elizabeth Who-Are-Ye (d. 1471)
10. John Boteler was the son of Philip le Boteler (1412-53), esq of
Watton Woodhall, Herts. by his wife Elizabeth (Isabel) Willoughby
(living 1453)
11. Philip Boteler was the son of Philip le Boteler (1388-1421), Knt
of Watton Woodhall, Herts. by his wife Elizabeth Cokayne
12. Philip Boteler the eventual sole heir (in 1413) of his great-
grandmother Hawise was the son of Philip Boteler (d.1393), Knt of
Watton Woodhall, Herts. by his wife Elizabeth Who-Are-Ye (living 1412)
13. Philip Boteler was the son of Ralph Boteler (third son), Knt of
Watton Woodhall, Herts. j.u. by his wife Katherine Peletoyt, heiress
of that place
14. Katherine Peletoyt was the daughter of Philip de Peletoyt, Knt
of Watton Woodhall, Herts.
