Hi Folks,
The document described below shows: Philip Boteler, son of Grisold

This elder William is likely the Lord Mayor, if so there is a
strong possibility that Brian Roche, the father of Grisold, was the
Lord Mayors brother.

Tom William Roche the Lord Mayor was so in 1540, in addition to being
Sheriff in 1524 and a Knight.

Your above is interesting in that Philip Butler, son of Grisold would
not yet be born. So this must be Philip the *FATHER* of John. In
particular, it must be that John and Grisold were already married in
or by 1532, but John must be a minor yet and so William is sueing the
father who would apparently be the guardian.

Or* he is suing based on some marriage agreement not fulfilled. At
any rate, William Jr must be the Lord Mayor because of how early this
document is. So he wasn't yet a Knight. His father must have just
died? And so I'd say this makes it more likely that Bryan and William
are brothers, and their father's name was also William.

Now in addition, we know that Brian Roche was sergeant of the kitchen
(eatery) in 1511 and died in 1514 leaving as his HEIR his son
Nicholas. Interesting that this lawsuit is against Grizel's father-in-
law and not her brother Nicholas.

I wonder if some trace of an *older* William Roche can be found
.
