Re: Responses

I personally wish this list was on moderation. People can still help one another and
be civil. Sources yes, but not the junk that goes with it.

No.1 as rude. People just want to have help. They don't expect to
receive
"put down" responses. My question is, why do you need to know
the source in
order to answer the question? If you were told the source, how would that

affect your answer?

SGM is not like the warm furry, "thank-you for sharing," email lists
and bulletin boards. This is no holds barred, high level sparring and
debate. You may not like it. You may find some posts rude. This is
just too bad. Here, sources are taken very seriously. You should know
that since a quick search of SGM via Google groups shows you have been
posting since at least August 2000 and that at least Kay Allan has
previously taken considerable time to attempt to discuss the
importance of sources with you. (see http://tinyurl.com/6bwpq9)

So to answer your question, if someone posts their source is "the
Internet" or World Family Tree then that's basically the same as
saying they made their source up. It's worthless, cannot be evaluated
and is not worth someone taking the time to look up a reputable source
which will almost invariably show a break in the line. People here are
very helpful but they are not a free checking service for the crap
someone finds on the Internet.
