Interestingly, Marchant shows that Robert Southworth's wife Jane was a
Wasteneys, almost certainly from the gentry family of that name in the
area. However, she was probably a second wife, and if Edward
Southworth was born before 1592 (I believe), he couldn't have been her
son--but the son of a first wife.
If you search the extracted IGI for Headon, Notts. (batch nos. P011091
and M011091), be sure to use both of these spellings: WASTENEYS and
WASTNES.
An Anne Wasteneys married a John Rayner there on 20 Feb. 1625. Could
this have been the first wife (or an early wife?) of the Rev. John
Rayner of Plymouth in New England?
