Philip DE GAY

Disappointingly no response yet to my first queries about the GAY family, so maybe some kind soul out there could help with this one:

I know I'm probably arriving after the party's over - but can anyone on the mailing list tell me if the exact identity and lineage of the father of Aline DE GAY, ?b 1159 Wycombe, Bucks, has been finally resolved or agreed upon. Was he Philip de Gai, son of Stephen and Aline (nee Pipard) or was he Philip FitzRobert, son of Robert, Earl of Gloucester?

I have just read through about 130 comments on the subject of the DE GAY family which were posted a couple of years ago, so I cannot believe this subject will not be of interest to someone on this mailing list.
