I have just run across an article "Pedigree of the Earls of Eu" in the
Sussex Archaeological Collections that states Baldwin Fitz-Gilbert,
brother of Richard de Clare of Tonbridge, had sons Robert and
Richard. Robert "had Brionne and was deprived of it" and Richard died
supposedly s.p.
Baldwin's two daughters became his heirs, one of whom married Osmond
de Centville, Viscount Vernon by whom a daughter who married Richard
de Reivers.
My question comes with a son, Richard, who died s.p. If this Richard
had an illegitimate heirs, would the pedigree still indicate "s.p"?
Corrections and observations appreciated.
