Re: Ingeborg of Denmark

the moment. Some links are being questioned and
remarks are most welcome.

1.Ingeborg of Denmark

in Danish custom, she was: Ingeborg Valdemarsdatter -
of Denmark
and French, Isambour of Denmark (actually, Isambour de
Danie, or something like)

Born 1175
Died 29 Julky 1236 Corbeil

2.Valdemar I den Store, King of Denmark

Valdemar I Knudsen 'den store', Duke of Slesvig, King
of Denmark

Born 14 January 1131
Died 12 May 1182 Vordingborg
3.Sofie of Polock

identification of Sofie's paternal "country" and
designation is dependent on identification of her
father.
Polock is spelling in Polish. Which has nothing to do
with authenticity of the situation there then.
the local language tends to spell it as: Polatsk
but hers can as well be: of Belarusia
In Danish custom, she was called: Sofie
Valadarsdatter, or Sofie Valdemarsdatter

IF one writes "from Ruthenia" or "from Gardarike", it
has the advantage of arguably covering all potential
identifications of her father.

born about 1140
died 5 May 1198

4.Knud Lavard of Denmark, Duke in Sonderjylland,
King
of The Wenden

the title "King of The Wenden" looks like a joke in
this context.
He, as duke of the entire southern Jylland, managed to
conquer a Polabian-inhabited one corner of what now is
Holstein. Tribe(s) (mostly) of Vagrians.
He became proclaimed by them as their ruler.
Contemporary sources in latin may assign him some such
title something like 'regulus', but I would be
surprised if he really were consistently called as
'rex' like his liege lords, kings of Denmark. still,
it wasn't as important as his position as duke.
Wenden, by the way, appears not as english to me - it
looks like a plural of that in German.

Would it sound more commensurate ?
if his name and titles were something like:
duke Knud Eriksen 'Lavard' (of Denmark), Hertug af
Sonderjylland, Lord over the Wends in Vagria

born 1096 Roskilde
murdered 7 January 1131 Haraldsted Skov, Rongsted
Haralsted Skov is aame as Haraldsted Forest
is it really 'Rongsted'? i would think Ringsted...

married about 1116
5.Ingeborg Haraldsdatter of Gardarike (her name in
Russian, no doubt, was different)

6.Wolodar Glebovitsch Prince of Minsk
died after 1167
married about 1135 Divorced
german spelling of name.
Volodar Gljebovich of Polatsk (or, of Belarusia),
Prince of Minsk

It is not held certain that Sofie's father is
identified as this ruler. Though, imo, he is the
likeliest.
The most which is known on basis of explicit mentions
in source materials, is
Volodar (or, in Norse, Valadar), ruler in
Ruthenia/Gardarike

7.Richiza/Swentoslawa of Poland
born 12 April 1116
died after 25 December 1155

I have no idea where that Sventoslava part comes as
candidate of her contemporary name.

In Scandinavia, she was known as: Rikissa
Burislevsdatter of Poland
(actually, of the Wends - but that would be confusing
in this, imo)

8.Erik Ejegod 'the Good', King in Denmark

Erik I Svendsen 'Evergood'/'Ejegod', King of Denmark

born Slangerup
died 10 July 1103 Cyprus
married before 1086
9.Bodil Thorgunnasdotter
died 1103 near Jerusalem

if her husband died in July and if she died the same
year, then her death necessarily must have been during
Autumn 1103

10.Mstislav I, Grand Duke of Kiev

Mstislav I Izyaslavich of Ruthenia, High King /or,
Great Prince/ of Kiev
He appears to have had also a Viking name - the
tradition among early Rurikids of having two names.
His was then Harald. (king Harald Valdemarson of
Gardarike)

born 1076
died 15 April 1132
married 1095
11.Christine of Sweden

Kristina Ingesdotter of Sweden

I seriously doubt that Russian spelling of her name
were "Christine" - it looks more like, er, German
spelling...

died 18 January 1122

12.Gleb Wseslawitsch, Prince of Minsk

Gleb Vseslavich of Belarusia (or, of Polatsk), prince
of Minsk

died November 1119
married
13.Anastasia Jaropolkowna of Turow

Anastasia Jaropolkovna of Turaw

numbers 12 and 13 (as well as 24-27) are dependent on
identification of sofie's father.

born 1074
died 8 January 1159

14.Boleslaw III Krzywousty, King of Poland

Krzywousty is, in english, Wrymouth

it is arguable if these Polish rulers should/could be
titled as Kings,
they were something like High Duke in their own
terminology, after the Holy Roman ruler had forced
them to give up the kingly title.
On the other hand, many other countries just called
them as kings - like practically all contemporary
Scandinavian material did.

born (20 August 1086)
died 28 October 1138
married 1115
15.Salome von Berg-Schelklingen

I have been greatly wondering where that Schelklingen
part comes from.
And whether it were authentic, in that time. Any
contemporary explicit evidence of that part of the
name...?

anyway, the identification of Rikissa's mother is
uncertain.
Almuse (Salome) of Berg is the usual suspect...
by no means a certainty, though.

born before 1101
died 27 July 1144

16.Svend IV Estridsen, King in Denmark

King of Denmark

born about 1020
died April 1074 Soderup
17.NN

18.Thrugot Ulfsen
19.Thorgunna Vagnsdatter

20.Vladimir II Monomakh, Grand Duke of Kiev

Vladimir II Vsevolodich 'Monomakh' of Ruthenia, High
King /or, Great Prince/ of Kiev

born 1053
died 19 May 1125 Alta
married 1070
21.Gytha of Wessex

Gytha of Wessex is not altogether a certain
proposition for this, though I tend to favor it.

22.Inge Stenkilsson, King of Sweden
died 1100

Inge I Stenkilson

Did he really die already in 1100?
not possibly c1110? or later?

23.Helena

this is an enigmatic lady (difficult to identify
further) I recently published an article about.
Helena 'the Byzantine'

24.Wseslaw I Brjatscheslawitsch, Grand Duke of Kiev
died 14 April 1101

Vseslav I Brjatcheslavich 'the Seer' of Belarusia,
(1044-1101) Prince of Polatsk, (1068-1069) Great
Prince in Kiev

* if we try to keep things commensurate, his brief and
usurper-like tenure in Kiev was something fairly
ephemeral and small, compared with his half a century
as ruler over most of what today is Belarus.

25.NN

26.Jaropolk Pjotr Isjaslawitsch, Prince of Wladimir
and Turow

Izyaslavich, of Ruthenia
Prince of Volynia - not Vladimir in middle Russia

born before 1050
died 22 November 1087
married about 1073
27.Kunigunde of Beichlingen
died 8 June 1140

wasn't Beichlingen the fief of her some later husband,
and not her own background/ possession?

28.Wladyslaw I Herman, King of Poland
born 1043
died 4 June 1102
married about 1080
29.Judith of Bohemia
born about 1056/1058
died 25 December 1086

30-31 are dependent on identification of Rikissa's
mother

30.Heinrich I, Count von Berg-Schelklingen
died before 24 September 1116
31.Adelaide von Mochenthal
died about 1 December 1125

Any correction or addition will be most appreciated.
