I, too, am unsuccessful in searching for these posts via http://groups.google.com/advanced_group_search.

I think it must be a problem at Google's end, because the messages in this Mawddwy thread were distributed via the newsgroup soc.genealogy.medieval and are still available on the Verizon news server that I access (in Philadelphia).
