Peasemarch, Peter et al,

First, thank you, especially Peter, for clues so far.

My information, based on secondary sources, is that Pandolfo (seems more
commonly used than Pandolfus, though I doubt there is an official version)
was son of Guaimar III, Prince of Salerno. Guimar IV was the eldest son
and
was the ruler when they were both murdered (assasinated if you will) in
the
same incident, 3rd June 1052. The two Sichelgaitas were thus first
cousins.

One thing to be corrected from all previous posts in this thread is that
Guaimar III's younger son, the lord of Capaccio murdered with his brother
Prince Guaimar IV in June 1052, was named Paldolf (not the more common
Pandolf).

Paldolf's wife Theodora was daughter of Gregory, described as duke and
consul of the Romans ("filia domni Gregorii Romanorum ducis et consulis"),
probably Gregory II, count of Tusculum.

I haven't been able to locate Emma, granddaughter of Pandolf nor
Lampus,
lord of Fasanella, so I haven't been able to follow up on your second
suggestion, Peter. The only Emma I could find was daughter (or sister?) of
Robert Guiscard, who would be grandaughter of Guimar IV, not Pandolfo.

I don't have details of the descent from Lampus, lord of Fasanella - please
remember that the connection through his family to the later lords of
Sanseverino is based on a conjecture that Perna, wife of Count Thomas I,
belonged to this family. The suggestion appeared in an article by Sylvie
Pollastri published in 1991 that I don't have to hand, and it is not a
proven fact.

I did piece together the following line, mostly, maybe entirely from
Leo's site.

Pandolfo
Sirca = Ruggerio Sanseverino (I take it that this Sirca is Sichelgaita and
Ruggerio is Peter's Roger.)

Not quite right - Paldolf of Capaccio's daughter Sichelgaita was probably
married first to Asclettin of Sicignano, lord of Polla, and secondly (as his
first wife) to Roger, lord of Rota (later known as Ruggero I of
Sanseverino). He had four sons by his first wife, whether or not this was
Sichelgaita of Capaccio, but none of them had proven descendants beyond the
second generation.

Enrico Sanseverino (I don't know his wife)

Enrico was son of Ruggero by his second wife, Sica (aka Sichelgarda) who was
daughter of Guiamar IV's son Landolf, lord of Policastro and Sanseverino.
Her mother was presumably Landolf's wife Emilia, of unknown family. This
Sica/Sichelgarda was married first to Geoffrey of Medania, lord of Suessola
and Acerra, and secondly (as his second or possibly third wife) to Ruggero
by whom she was mother of Enrico. This is not in doubt as Geoffrey's son
Robert of Medania was called "uterine brother" by Ruggero's son Enrico of
Sanseverino, and Ruggero himself after Sica's death specified her father
("pro salute anime domine Sike quondam dilecte coniugis nostre, filiae
quondam domini Landolfi filii domini Guaymarii principis").

Enrico's wife was a lady named Fenizia, who died apparently as a prisoner at
Palermo in 1162. Her family is not recorded.

Guglielmo Sanseverino = Isabella di Marsico
Guglielmo Sanseverino (I don't know his wife)
Tomasso Sanseverino, 1st Conte di Marsico = Perna

You have interpolated a generation here, the second Guglielmo did not
exist - Enrico's son Guglielmo who married Isabella of Marsico was father of
the next two counts of Sanseverino. These were the brothers Giacomo (died on
crusade 1227/9, married to Elvira, widowed countess of Brienne, a daughter
of King Tancred) and Tommaso - not "Tomasso" - who married Perna (maybe of
Fasanella, or maybe of Morra).

Ruggerio Sanseverino, 2nd Conte di Marsico = Teodora d'Aquino
Tomasso Sanseverino, 3rd Conte di Marsico = Isnarda de Courba

Isnarde d'Agoult (or Isnarda di Agaldo in Italy) was daughter of Amiel, lord
of Corbano. She was probably the first wife of Tommaso II, but if so only
briefly and they had no children together. He then married Marguerite,
daughter of Henri I, count of Vaudémont & Ariano by Marguerite of La Roche,
who was mother of his son & heir Enrico.

Enrico Sanseverino (d 1317) = Ilaria de Lauria
Tomasso Sanseverino, 4th Conde [sic on genealogics] di Marsico =
Margherita
di Nollia

Margherita was daughter of Jean Clignet, signore of Caiazzo by Marguerite of
Les Baux.

Antonio Sanseverino, 5th Conte di Marsico = Isabeau del Balzo
Giovanna Sanseverino = Louis d Enghein Comte de Brienne et Conversano
Margaret d Enghein = Jean de Luxembourg
Pierre I de Luxembourg = Marguerite del Balso

In Italy she is called Margherita del Balzo, in France Marguerite des Baux.
Her father Francesco was prince of Andria, her mother was Sueva (aka
Giustina) Orsini.

Jacquetta de Luxembourg = John (Plantagenet) Duke of Bedford

Genealogics doesn't have either wife of Pandolfo, so this line looks
plausible apart from what you said, Peter. Could you give a little more
guidance, please?

I found the following in the archives (2001):
*snip* Robert I of Sanseverino is usually taken
to have been the eldest son of Roger I, lord of Rota (or Sanseverino) by
his
second wife Sica, widow of Geoffrey de Medania, lord of Acerra, daughter
of
Landulf of Salerno, lord of Policastro & his unknown wife. *snip* That
from
Peter Stewart, sorry I should have found a more elegant way to quote it.

Landolf of Salerno, lord of Policastro was married to a woman named Emilia,
as above.

I've seen Pandolf written as Landulf, but I know nothing of Policastro.
I think I'm getting more confused! If this is the same bloke then
presumably
two wives have been unearthed in the last 5 years.

Not the same man - Paldolf was a brother and Landolf was a son of Guaimar
IV.
