Re: Fibbs, fables and continuing fairytales

We know even from Y-DNA that there has been much contact
between Asia and America essentially ever since
the first people cam to America. And there has almost always
been contact during that time all the way around the
Arctic Ocean, circularly, both directions. The only question
is, how much flow was there from Eskimos to people farther
south? It doesn't take much for Rhode's simulations to be
correct. Panama is not much barrier. The most remote of
Oceania is the major quibble.

My argument was not against Asia-America contact but rather with the
idea that from contact no older than 7000 years and no more recent than
5000 years, ALL Native Americans would descend from the same Asian
person. Certainly the Arctic peoples have influenced other groups
around the Arctic genetically and culturally, but they are a different
group from other Native Americans. Any common ancestry would be farther
back than 7000 years. My understanding is that studies of Y-DNA of
Native Americans has generally shown an origin in Mongolia but, again,
the timeline is a problem, as this would have to have been tens of
thousands of years ago. The Native people on the Northwest Coast from
southern Alaska to northern California appear to have considerable
contact with the Ainu of Japan. As 10,000 year old skulls found in
Washington state and elsewhere most closely resemble the modern Ainu,
this is certainly evidence of an Asian-American contact (as is the
living cultural record of both Ainu and Native American people).
Hoei-Shin is thought to have sailed to the west coast of North America
around 500 CE but no record exists of intimate contacts. Chinese coins
have been found in archaeological sites around the Northwest Coast. But
the question still remains regarding the timeline. By 7000 years ago,
the Americas were well settled and practicing agriculture in some
areas. It seems a bit far-fetched that a random contact with someone
like Hoei Shin would have genetically covered the Americas....and,
anyway, that was only about 1500 years ago. - Bronwen
