What is meant by "nature of kinship among high born medieval European
families."?

Nature of kinship? Low born medieval families were related to them
as well. Some of the 'high born' families descended from 'low born'
or illegitimacy produced 'low born' closely related to 'high born'.

Personally I find the genealogical links between countries much more
interesting, never mind whether they are 'high born' or 'low born'.

It is a matter of psychology to refer to them as "high born", even if
their practices were distinctly brutal or murderous or vicious.

The point is that anyone who thinks they are descended from these
chappies can then also think of themselves as "high born". They will
be much gratified by anyone who refers to their ancestors as "high
born". They will be anxious to return a favour to such a flattering
writer, possibly by buying his works.

(And only the day before yesterday I was distinctly gratified to
receive from the College of Arms a transcript of an entry in their
manuscript original of the Shropshire 1663 Visitation. This Visitation
has never been published. Anyhow it proposed that our early Powys
forbears had no connection with anyone and were undoubtedly low-level
yeomen from the hinterland of Wales in the late thirteenth century.)
