This is a major collection of colonial and Revolutionary documents,
biographical sketches of prominent persons, lists of early settlers,
militia rolls and lists of soldiers and officers in the Revolution,
and county-by-county sketches from the first settlement of Georgia
down to the middle of the 19th century.
The accounts of the counties include traditions, statistics, early
settlers, and abstracts from the census of 1850. About one-third of
the book is devoted to a collection of documents dealing with the
colonial and Revolutionary periods, while a 41-page Appendix gives the
principal statistics of the whole state as taken from the census of
1850.
"The whole volume forms a compilation of the greatest value,
extensively used by subsequent writers." J.N. Larned, The Literature
of American History. (1902)
