JOEL Family - Biala - England - USA (and possible connections to BARNETT and LYONS families)

X-No-archive: yes
I am working on the JOEL family and I am seeking information on what information can be obtained on English records to determine the value of ordering them.

Specifically, I am trying to determine who the parents were of Jacob JOEL, b. Biala, Poland 1806, d. Brighton, East Sussex, England, 1874. What can be found on a death record? Would there be Synagogue records that could be accessed? Jacob md. Rosetta HYAMS, who we have evidence to believe had a brother named Hyam HYAMS. Rosetta was born in Chichester, West Sussex, England (abt 1816) and died 1898 in Brighton. Would there be records for her birth and would death records for this time period have more information than 1874?

Several of the children Of Jacob and Rosetta immigrated to the US - mostly to Georgia and Florida.

I doubt I can find records for Biala and I am not sure which Biala Jacob was born in as there is some discrepancy in trees posted on Ancestry - none of which I trust w/o verification. It has been suggested that Jacob JOEL may be a son of Joel JOEL (Jacob has a son with this name) and Mary BENJAMIN - however, all of their children were born in England (Middlesex, mostly) so it is unclear why Jacob would have been born in Poland. Perhaps they are following a leaf and all copying each other? One son of Joel JOEL and Mary BENJAMIN was Isaac JOEL.

Isaac JOEL (b 1802, Middlesex) md Rebecca SOLOMONS, whose son Joel JOEL (b 1837, Middlesex) was the father of Solomon "Solly" JOEL. Solly became a wealthy man when he became involved with the Barnato Diamond Mining Company which bought up mines in South Africa.

I am searching for any documentation that would establish a connection between Isaac JOEL and Jacob JOEL. I would like to find records which can help me prove or disprove the parental relationship of Jacob Joel as well as find parents for Rosetta HYAMS. I have not done anything with English records except work with the BMD and Ancestry and have looked on the LDS and do not see any Jewish records for Brighton.

I am also interested in how the JOEL family connects to the BARNETT family and perhaps LYONS family. I find apparent connections in both England and Georgia and believe they may be traceable to Poland.

I would appreciate hearing from any researchers working on any of these families as well as researchers familiar with English records (and any suggestions about Biala).

If you can give me any help or ideas I would love to hear from you.
