Origin of Polish names

X-No-archive: yes
Hello everyone,

Despite going through FAQs and InfoFiles on the origin of Polish names,
I'm a bit confused. Data for my family in Warszaw seem to point to a
single ancestor, Eliasz, born in the 1770s and buried under the name
RYSZFELD in Warszaw. I assume it is highly unlikely that he was a
single male child. Then I would expect his brothers to bear the same
newly adopted surname. Obviously, I may be missing some critical data.
But also, could it be that different brothers adopted completely different
surnames? Thank you for your insight.
