Renaming a sick child after a long-lived deceased relative

Dear Genners,

I realize there are Jewish customs for naming newborns to honor deceased family
members and renaming the ill with the Hebrew name Chaim (for life). However, my
question:

Are there customs and/or biblical references as well as any examples for
re-naming a sickly child after a deceased but long-lived relative in order
to heal the child?
