Origin of name Smierek

X-No-archive: yes
Hi Genners

I am hoping that someone among you may be familiar with the name
Smierek. It was the name of one of the children of my GGGGGF born in
1811 in Kaluszyn. The family came from Wzyzce which is between Krakow
and Tarnow.

I am trying to find the origins of this name to see if it offers any
clues about the family, my research so far leads me to believe this may
be a name which has links to the Bohemia region and that it may be
related to the Czech name Smerek which apparently means Spruce (as in
the tree), I did a quick check for Smierek on Facebook and found two,
one Czech and one Slovakian, there are several Smereks.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks as always
