Hi - I just learned of an incredible story about my family
related to Slupsk, Poland, (near Gdansk) after tracking down
some distant relatives in Israel (thanks to JewishGen).

My great-uncle Abram SNIADOWSKI and his younger brother were placed in
a Polish orphanage in Slupsk during World War II. There were about 120
kids in the place, about 8-10 of whom were Jews being concealed from
the Nazis. Abram said that he only learned about the other kids being
Jews *after* the war, because no one talked about it during the war.
Plainly, their parents had to have some good non-Jewish friends who
helped place the boys in this orphanage. Abram and his brother
pretended to be regular Poles, but they were not required to go through
all the Catholic rituals (Abram said "they did not put me under the
water, you know?") As a result, obviously, Abram survived.

This is an incredible story, and I just learned of it today!

We are heading to Poland next week, and would very much like to track
down anyone connected with this orphanage and meet them (and thank
them!). Does anybody know of an orphanage in the Slupsk area? I found
this link - http://www.naszdom.org.pl/our_home_1.htm which indicates
that an orphanage in Slupsk was sold off. I've asked
our researcher to call them and check it out, but if anyone knows
anything about the orphanage in Slupsk, anyone who worked there,
contact information, etc, I'd very much appreciate your help. Please
send me a message at mjfstewart@xxxxxxxxxx

Thanks,
Matt Stewart
