I am trying to find the final outcome of a case involving a corrupt judge in Ontario from 1910-15.
In 1910, my grandfather Moses Finkelstein was unjustly convicted of fraud involving wolfskin bounties in Fort Frances (District of
Rainy River), by a judge who had demanded but didn't get a bribe. He was fined $5,500.
In 1915 under an Order-in-Council signed by the Governor-General and the Prime Minister, an investigation of the judge,
C.R. Fitch, was ordered. Hearings were held, and a second Order-in-Council found the judge guilty on a number of charges
including that of my grandfather. The judge was removed from the bench, but not disbarred.
My question is what happened to my grandfather's case? Was there a new hearing? Did he get his money back?
I have looked in the Ontario court records but could find nothing after Judge Fitch was fired.
If anyone has suggestions as to where to look, I would appreciate it.
