Come to the
28th IAJGS International Conference
on Jewish Genealogy
Chicago August 17-22, 2008 www.chicago2008.org

I've been involved in organizing a group on Facebook that
focuses on the Jews of Grajewo, Poland -- and if you're
researching ancestors from Grajewo, you're invited to join us!
We're exchanging photos, notes, videos -- anything that might
help people make connections with other researchers who might
have just the information that you've been looking for.
You can find the group by logging on to Facebook and searching
for Grajewo. (If you don't have a Facebook account, I should
mention that it's free.) Or you can access the group directly
by going to
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=13710402833
And on a more general note... I'm wondering if any of you have
used Facebook (specifically its "groups" function) and what you
think about its potential to provide a space that might be
helpful with Jewish genealogical research. I have to admit
that I'm ambivalent (although I also have to admit that I'm
very new to Facebook, and some of its subtleties may have
escaped me). On the plus site, it's conducive to
"community building," which means that even if you don't
have to know how to create a website, you can still easily
create a professional-looking area for people to exchange
information in a variety of ways. On the negative side,
it seems to be primarily designed for the college crowd
(and younger), most people over 25 have never used it.
But maybe that's a plus, in the sense that it certainly
wouldn't hurt to bring "fresh blood" into the discussion.
Anyway, if any of you have Facebook experience, I'm very
interested in your thoughts on this. Thanks!!
