I wanted to add some details about the new LDS data for Przasnysz in the JRI-Poland database, as there are a number of new aspects worth knowing about.

1. The database now includes all years from 1826-1865. A significant gap existed previously for many years where there was no yearly index created by the town clerk. Also, record numbers have now been corrected for a number of years where the clerk had listed page numbers and not record numbers in the index.

2. All years now have additional new data extracted from the actual records, with names for parents and grandparents and maiden names of mothers (where listed in the record). In some cases, errors seen in the index have been fixed by using data from the actual record.

3. In many cases, surnames have been reliably inferred from the database, using a methodology described at the IAJGS 2006 Conference in New York City and summarized
in "Strategies for Assigning Surnames To Early JRI-Poland Records" which was published in AVOTAYNU Volume XXIII, Number 2 Summer 2007. Inferred surnames in the
JRI-Poland database are denoted by square brackets, e.g. [ZYLBERMAN].

As an illustrative example, do a search on Zylberman from Przasnysz. This example shows
a) numerous new records to the database that were not previously available
b) a number of cases where the inferred surname differs from the one in the record/index
c) many records where the name Zylberman comes up as the maiden name of the mother in birth records
d) expanded information on the names of fathers, mothers and their respective patrynomics and surnames

With the additional data from extraction available, it is now much easier to put together family trees directly from the JRI-Poland database search (though additional information, of course, can often be found in the full records).

If you have any family from Przasnysz, I encourage you to revisit the JRI-Poland website and do a new search with the expanded database.

Lastly, an expanded version of the patrynomic files 1808-1825 for Przasnysz, current version available at

http://www.jewishgen.org/jri-pl/town/przasnysz.htm,

will contain much new information, including the missing years from 1822-1825 and a large number of inferred surnames. I hope to have the updated Przasnysz patrynomic file on-line this summer.
