Shirley,

I thought you might like to do what I did recently with regard to Rose Gerstein, my maternal grandmother, who grew up in a small Ukrainian town (Slavuta). No one I spoke with knew where it was. So when the marvelous (and also free!) computer application called Google Earth turned up a couple of years ago, one of the first things I told it to do was fly me to Slavuta. It provides the user with an actual photographic image (satellite view) of the area. I don't want to mislead you, it's very far from a close-up photo, but for me at least it was just superb.

The download site is <http://earth.google.com/download-earth.html>. You can get a version that runs under Windows or another version for Mac OS X.

Best wishes,

David

P.S. I just tried this out before emailing my note. All you need to do is enter the words Dymer, Ukraine in the search box and then press the Return key.

Dear Fellow Researchers,
I recently learned that my grandmother and her siblings came to
Chicago from Dymer [Dimer, Demir] a town not fr from Kiev, and
located at the crossing of the rivers Irpin and Dnieper.
