Actually, you're both right! There's a column for "Last Residence" of
the deceased (although it's not always accurate) AND "Last Benefit",
which is where the benefit check was sent.

My dad's entry shows Brooklyn, NY for "Last Residence" (he lived in
Brooklyn, not me), and MY zip code in Virginia for Last Benefit.

The SSDI does not have information about place of death - it gives the place
of residence at the time of death, which can be different. If it is, the
death certificate may not be on file in the state of residence.

The SSDI gives the place of the last SS benefit check and not where they died.
I was POA for both my parents who did not live in the same town as I did. The
SSDI lists my place of residence not theirs.
