It is times like this that I realize what a poor genealogist I would make.
And a sense of wasted years.
I have known of my cousin Louis "GREER" for a few years now and have
reported of him here. He was born Icchok Lipa GRYNBAUM, 27 Jul 1923,
Sosnowiec, Poland, s/o Izrael David GRYNBAUM and Golda LENCZNER. He had at
least one sister Brucha GRYNBAUM, born 28 Feb 1925, Sosnowiec. Golda is the
d/o Litman Isaac and Gitel Rywke (GLIKSMAN) LENCZNER of Szczekociny, Poland.
Golda died 15 Aug 1943, Sosnowiec. I do not know what became of her husband,
daughter or if there might have been other children. Golda is the sister of
my great grandmother, Liba. After the war, Golda's brother, David LENTZNER
(1894 - 1967), went to Europe looking for relatives and found only Louis
returning to the US with him. Louis had a numbered tattoo so apparently he
was at Auschwitz.
I have Louis's death certificate, 11 Aug 1967, giving his address on Delita
Dr., Woodland Hills, CA, noting a wife "Ronnie" whom I was unable to locate.
That he worked for "Landis". For whatever reason, I was under the impression
that he had no children. However this past week, I received something that I
should have obtained long ago; his Los Angeles Times obit. This names his
wife and two children!!! Apparently a son and a daughter (whom I hesitate to
name as they are probably still living). I believe I have tentatively id'd
them with the daughter being born in CA in 1955 and the son being born in CA
in 1960. Further the son maybe the GREER who married a WENTZEL in 1980 (Los
Angeles Co.). Ronnie's surname maybe ACK. Apparently Louis and Ronnie were
NOT married in CA. Ronnie's parents maybe Frank ACK (1884-1972) and Dorothe
(WEBBER) ACK (1894-1985).
Would I be correct in believing it a bit unusual for the Masons to have been
involved in the funeral service of Louis (Hillside Memorial Park)? The
particular 'lodge' located in Santa Monica has an active website with a
number of Jewish surnames. An initial report from them reports Louis was not
an member of their lodge and the service was probably performed on behalf of
another lodge.
If you know of this family, please contact me privately.
Thanks,
Michael McTeer
