I owe a very big thanks to Janet Akaha; she managed to accomplish in a few
minutes what I hadn't been able to accomplish in....a very long time! She
found the 1860 census for my gg grandparents Aaron J and Bertha MARX. I'm
not sure how she managed to find them as they were listed as Alex J and
Betsy MARKTZ!!? It's very clearly them as the children's names are correct
and his occupation as bookbinder is correct.
The big find in this record is Jenny, born about 1843 in Germany. Her
occupation is also listed as bookbinder. Since she was also listed as
MARKTZ I can only assume that her real name was Jenny MARX and she was
probably Aaron's sister!
The 1860 census actually shows the MARX family as living in Painesville,
Lake County, OH which is NE of Cleveland.
If anyone is aware of a Jenny MARX who was born (probably) in Sterbfritz
about 1843 and immigrated (probably) between 1853 and 1860, I would love to
hear from you. This is a first crack in the high, thick wall that surrounds
my MARX family!
Please respond privately.
Thanks,
Linda Silverman Shefler
