I've made some progress tracking Moische MAFS from Bresowice. Originally, I was looking to trace Awrum Izhok MEYEROWITZ from Brestovitsa, the same town my great-grandfather Hirsch Tsvi MEYEROWITZ came from. According to a 1914 ship manifest, Awrum was going to his aunt Rifke MEYEROWITZ, c/o Mafs on Sutter Ave in Brooklyn.
After failing to find the address in the NY 1915 census at the NYC public library, I came home and found that Steve Morse, yet again, had my solution in hand. I was able to enter the address for Sutter Ave and get not only the 1920 ED but a button that took me directly to the film roll for the 1920 census. A little searching and I found, 2 house numbers away on Sutter Ave, a Max MASS with
his wife Rebecca (presumably the aunt Rifke from the ship manifest) and 3 children, Miriam, Abraham and Louis. A simple search for Max MASS in the 1930 census found Max with wife Beckie, and children Mary, Albert and Louis, now living on Butler Avenue.
A little more searching on the ItalianGen site for NYC marriages found the 1932 marriage for Mary MASS and a Jack GOLDSTEIN. I also found that Max, Beckie and many other MASS are buried at Mt. Carmel in the Brestovitser section, so hopefully there is a good chance of finding descendents.
If any of this sounds familiar, please contact me directly at

Thanks,
Marty Meyers
