Your friend's mother Miriam LURIE cannot be a paternal descendent of Issac Luria
from Safed ( tradition aside ) for Issac had no surviving male descendents ( his
only son died at an early age ). There is no evidence that Issac had daughters
also.

You may wish to contact me directly for I am the administrator of the Luria
Worldwide Genealogy Project and the Luria DNA Project. I have family trees
for over 140 families and about 30 have joined the DNA project.

If Miriam has a living brother he could do a Y-DNA test and we would be able to
verify if he has a paternal lineage from the Marashal ( Shlomo ben Yehiel).
