Greetings,
In reading a story written by a cousin from Poland, he mentions that he "was born in 1898 in a village in Poland called Visamore-Tomsha Gehermia, not far from a Jewish community named Simova. Visamore is located between Jembrova and Austrova, a road on which many people travelled."
I believe that Jebrova is Zambrow and Austrova is Ostrow (Mazowiecka). Probably Simova is Szumowo, as this town is situated between Zambrow and Ostrow Mazowiecka. Nothing comes up on ShtetlSeeker for Visamore-Tomsha Gehermia. Maybe this was just a little shtetl that no longer exists. It is not on a map of today's Poland. What is the likelihood that this town is Wyszomierz, as this town is between Zambrow and Ostrow Mazowiecka? And if it truly is Wyszomierz, than what is Tomsha? Part of a name of the same town or part of the name of a gubernia, or an adminstrative district?
This spelling of Visamore-Tomsha is of course a translation from original Yiddish, probably by someone who was very unfamiliar with the towns in NE Poland. I imagine too Gehermia was really Gubernia, but why does he state that Visamore-Tomsha Gehermia was part of a town's name, and not just the name of a gubernia?
Could someone venture an educated guess as to the current name of Visamore-Tomahs Gehermia?
Thanks so much.
